about tom

Photography

Tom has been taking photographs since his father handed him his first camera, a Kodak Brownie, in 1955. He has been exploring the world of photography ever since. His current exploits involve the melding of his images with his writing.

His main interests are with urban and coastal landscapes and the interaction of people with the landscape.

Most of his recent images have been recorded in and around Darwin NT.

He holds regular exhibitions and is involved with many commissions.

Education
Tom has been a teacher of photography for more than 40 years. He is currently teaching creative photography to adults at Casuarina Evening College. He has ambitions to expand his education blog into on-line courses.
Philosophy

Tom's philosophy is simple. He believes the photograph to be a vehicle for a story and the image we witness as a result of taking a picture is the interface between the photographer and the viewer.

Tom's motivation comes from two influences: the lack of time left to learn what he needs to know, and the sheer pleasure he gets from learning something new.
